The Animal Ambulance Amsterdam and his mother are very proud of 9-year-old Zaid. The normally shy boy intervened when he saw a group of older boys throwing up two coots. "I did not like to see that, because animals also have a life," he says himself.
It was not the first time that Zaid called the animal ambulance, but it was the most exciting. Earlier he called once for a dog that had clearly lost its owner. And also once for an injured bird. But when he went to play football a few days ago, he saw that some boys were throwing two birds. Zaid knows the boys from the neighborhood, they are a little older than him. "I think there was an 11 and the others 10."
"They played with the birds, and then they threw them. Then they put them away for a while. Then I quickly picked them up and went home with them."
Zaid was especially very sad that others had hurt the animals. "He came in crying," says his mother. "He said we should call the animal ambulance."
The animals were dazed and probably had severe headaches, which prevented them from holding their heads up, explains an employee of the animal ambulance. They have been taken to the bird sanctuary, where they are well cared for. How they are doing now is not yet clear. But chances are, according to the animal ambulance, that they will make it. "They need good care, the right warmth, food and love. And they get it there."
Zaid and his mother are surprised by the large amount of positive reactions that Zaid is now getting, including on social media. "I thought it was normal what I did, but now I think it's special." Big compliment and respect for Zaid !!!
