Decade Dick: Almost all participants passed the traffic exam

Freek Bredius was a guest in Decennium Dick on behalf of Safe Traffic Netherlands department Krimpen aan den IJssel. He was able to tell us that 421 children participated in the practical traffic exam today. All but five children passed. Congratulations to all! The children who did not make it turned out to have cycled on the route with their hands free. The route started and ended at the Tuyter. Mayor Martijn Vroom was present to officially start the first class. 7.3 Kilometers was cycled and the children of the groups 7 and 8 passed all kinds of difficult intersections and traffic situations in Krimpen aan den IJssel. What was very annoying and difficult was that there have been young people who removed or turned around signs from the route. In addition, some plates are irreparably damaged. It was the first time that this happened on the day of the traffic test. Your browser does not support this audio player. You can download the file . Also in this edition of Decennium Dick a

Largest water lily in the world blooms in Leiden

The oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands, the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden, has a wonderful pineapple scent. That means that the Victoria Amazonica is in bloom. With leaves that can grow up to two meters wide, this is the largest water lily in the world and its flowers smell like pineapple. The flower of the Victoria Amazonica is a night bloomer and only blooms in high summer. What is special is that the water lily only blooms for two nights. Rogier de Vugt, cashier of the Leiden Hortus Botanicus, knows everything about the plant. "The first night the flower is white and gives off a strong pineapple smell, which attracts beetles. The second night the flower turns pink and has no smell anymore. The beetles still come to it and are covered with pollen", explains De Vugt. Because the plant has an enormous size, only one can grow in the pond of the Hortus. "The leaves have raised edges, so they can't grow over each other, so they can't get any light anymore. Th

Boy (17) hits girl over bitterballen

The police in Hollands Kroon arrested a 17-year-old resident of Den Helder on Friday evening on suspicion of assault. Just before that, he had punched a girl in the face on the Lutjestrand, because she refused to share a portion of bitterballen with him. She reported the boy to police in the area. When he was arrested, he was searched and two telephones were found, which were probably stolen that same day, from bathers while swimming. The police are investigating the origin of the phones. The girl did not need immediate medical attention. She has been offered victim assistance. The suspect was taken to the police station and was questioned on Saturday. Boy, boy, and that for a portion of bitterballen. In this Happy Hour we have two tasty Jukebox Giants, namely . The "Do your Hair with a Guitar is . British consider Noah's Dutch Ark unseaworthy

The floating Bible museum StoriesArk is not allowed to leave the harbor of Ipswich in England for the time being. The Dutch ship, also known as Noah's Ark, has already docked in the East English coastal town in November 2019. But according to the British Coast Guard, the vessel is unseaworthy, local media and the BBC report. It is unsafe to leave, the Coast Guard says. The VerhalenArk was built in 2006 by the Dutch contractor and carpenter Johan Huibers. The ship is a (smaller) reconstruction of Noah's Ark as described in the Bible. The replica is 70 meters long and 13 meters high. In 2010 the colossus was bought by former television producer Aad Peters. He wanted to make it the first floating Biblical theme park in Europe. The museum includes wooden sculptures of stories from the Bible, such as that of Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel. According to the local newspaper Ipswich Star, the StoriesArk does not meet all legal requirements and there are concerns about safety on the

The New LOK Disc: Last Train Home (John Mayer)

When the first notes of “Last Train Home” are started, we immediately realize how much we missed the rains in Africa. Confusion sets in when we hear not David Paich, but John Mayer's soft voice coming from our speaker. It is no surprise that Mayer has already sought his inspiration in the seventies in recent years. On the single “New Light” released in 2018, we hear similar influences, among other things. The video clip of "Last Train Home" also perfectly matches the atmosphere of the song and the fact that John has clearly not yet been able to capture a hairdresser's appointment to get rid of his corona coupe contributes to the whole. All kidding aside. “Last Train Home” is a typical John Mayer song. A catchy tune and chorus in combination with a guitar riff here and there. Not much special, but ultimately a pleasant song. At the end of the song we are also briefly surprised thanks to Maren Morris who shows up as a backing vocalist, and then fades out the song “Afric

American fisherman accidentally catches a 6-foot alligator

Rob Birchmeier was fishing in his kayak in a South Carolina swamp when he got the fright of his life. He thought he had hooked a ray, but it turned out to be an alligator about eight feet long. On May 20, Birchmeier was single-handedly fishing for flounder from his 10-foot (4-meter) kayak. Images from the local newspaper show that he has caught 'something'. "I think I've hooked a stingray," the fisherman exclaims in the video he was shooting at the time. But out of the swirling, brown water, it's not a stingray that emerges, but a large alligator. "Surprise," Birchmeier says in "I was as surprised as I could be when the alligator surfaced," Birchmeier told the local newspaper about the moment. "It could even have been a mermaid, and I would have been just as surprised.” Finally, the alligator straightened the hook that stuck in its hind leg. This removed the animal from the leash and allowed it to swim away again in the dark water. P

Outdoor play day Krimpen aan den IJssel

June is the month of the national Outdoor Play Day. During the Outdoor Play Day, the importance of outdoor play is highlighted. More than 80% of the children indicate that they become cheerful and happy when they play outside. Research shows that children who play and exercise a lot outside grow up healthier and more balanced. Unfortunately, major events are not yet possible. That is why the large Outdoor Play Day event in Krimpen aan den IJssel is canceled this year. Synerkri has come up with a nice alternative to this. On Wednesday afternoon 9 and 16 June Synerkri will tour Krimpen aan den IJssel and we will organize an outdoor play day in the neighbourhood. The first Outdoor Play Day is on Wednesday afternoon 9 June from 3-5 pm in the Middenwetering Park. We are also organizing an Outdoor Play Day on Wednesday afternoon, June 16 from 3-5 PM. This time on the artificial lawn at the Orchidee. At 3 p.m., Alderman Coen Derickx will give the go-ahead for this fun afternoon. Synerkri
