Literary Happy Hour

After Erik's Tip, writer Marjo de Vroed sits down to tell something about herself and of course about her second book. Marjo de Vroed (1965) has lived in South Holland all her life and was a teacher at a Jenaplan school. She is married and has three grown daughters. When they were little, she regularly made up stories for them, which she brought to life with their hugs. She has loved writing since childhood. It started from group 4 with stories in the school newspaper and eventually resulted in adulthood in writing musicals for group 8 of her own school. In between, she wrote notebooks full of short stories and rhymes. And now children's books . First, of course, we have an overview of the Mega Single Top-100 and the announcement of the new LOKSCHIJF. Afterwards Ellen BommeljĂ© will be a guest for the item “Happy with the Bieb aan de IJssel”. The book “The salt path” from 2018 by Raynor Winn is central to this. Around 5:30 PM we have Erik's Tip [YOUTUBE VIDEO BCqcgfE4R3

Deer flees to the city to escape from hunters

Remarkable images from France. There a hunted deer fled from the forest yesterday to escape from hunters. Totally exhausted, the beast moved to the outskirts of Compiègne to catch its breath. Hunters had apparently been chasing the deer for a long time on a dog drive hunt. Seeing no other way out, the beast fled the forest and into the city. There it was found around 9 a.m., completely exhausted, on the sidewalk in front of the fence of a construction site. The police arrived quite quickly to keep everyone away. Still, animal activists quickly arrived on the scene. They wanted to make sure that the deer was treated respectfully, and certainly not handed over to the hunters. At around 11:30 a.m., a vet managed to numb the exhausted beast. Then it was taken back to the forest and released there. The hunters had now disappeared. They regret the incident but claim that they are always complying with the regulations. Activists of AVA France are trying to get a ban on driving hunting th

Crocodile waits patiently for a hundred cubs to climb on its back to cross the river

Consciousness of duty takes on a completely different meaning as soon as you see this crocodile swimming with its children. The gharial, a crocodile-like, waits patiently for a hundred or so young to climb on its back so that they can safely cross a river in northern India. Gharials can grow up to 4.5 meters long and weigh more than 900 kilograms. And while other crocodilians often carry their young in their large mouths, this is more difficult with the gharial. "The unusual morphology of a gharial's snout doesn't allow that," says Patrick Campbell of the Natural History Museum in London. "That's why the young have to cling to the head and back of their parents." It already resulted in an impressive photo. To do this, however, Dhritiman Mukherjee, the photographer, had to wander for weeks in the National Chambal Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary in India. He was rewarded for his perseverance because his photo was nominated as a contender for the 'Wildl

Older couple had machine guns in the attic and cartridges in the oven drawer

The Bunker Museum IJmuiden has been able to expand their collection with a special donation. It is a flawless machine gun from the Second World War, which had been in the attic room of Gré (79) and Gerard Broek (85) in Velsen-Zuid for 23 years. The resistance weapon, a so-called stengun, had been hidden behind a stack of gramophone records in the cupboard all those years, separated from the cartridges that were kept in the oven drawer. "They thought that was a bit stupid of us." The gun was fine for the sober couple. That came into their possession after a clean-up operation in the house of a deceased uncle, Gré tells the camera. "Gerard thought it was beautiful and I asked if we could have it. They were happy that they were rid of it and that's how it ended up with us. Until our daughter and sons thought it was no longer such a good idea because of our age. They asked to find another place, because the grandchildren sometimes play in the attic too, "says Gré

Holidays literally fall into the water: caravan shoots loose and rolls into wetering near Woerden

It was quite a shock. Maarten de Koning had just picked up his caravan after a major overhaul and was driving it over the Kromwijkerdijk in Woerden, when he suddenly heard a loud bang. "I saw the caravan pass by in my mirror and dive into the water. Yes, that's not fun." The caravan took a dip in the Kromwijker Wetering and had to be fished out again by a salvage company. The damage is enormous: the vehicle is a total loss. His second home. That's how De Koning describes the caravan. He and his wife have had this house on wheels for ten years and now with retirement in sight they hoped to make full use of it. He had therefore brought the caravan to Van Vliet for maintenance and to have the caravan equipped with some extra facilities at the same time. "All things to make life a bit easier and to be able to camp with it for a long time to come." After paying a big bill, paid with love, says De Koning, he wanted to return the caravan to the garage. The cara

The new LOK disc: De Overkant (Suzan & Freek & Snelle)

In 2016, the couple Suzan & Freek received a shoutout from The Chainsmokers for their cover of “Don't let me down” after which a successful career started. Their first self-written song “Als het Avond is” from 2018 was played in Belgium and the Netherlands, but put the duo on the map as an act of which you think: 'yes, they can do something.' And then you also have rapper Snelle. What Suzan & Freek and Snelle have in common is that they all come from Gelderland. They come from Achterhoek, he grew up in Gorssel. Also, all three did not live in the city center, but on 'the other side'. 'Den boerbuite', as they put it so beautifully there. “De Overkant” is just about this: the feeling of nostalgia for your youth and simple times when there was nothing to do in a one-street village with a cafĂ© and a church tower. Yet the song is cheerful and Suzan sings along on Freek's enticing guitar. They sing about doors and bicycles that don't have to be loc
