Dad builds life-size pirate ship as a Halloween gift for daughter

A New York father gave his children an unforgettable Halloween: the man single-handedly built a life-size pirate ship 15 meters long and 6 meters high. The colossus is in front of his house in Rochester. “I just do it for fun and for my children,” Tony DeMatteo tells news channel CNN. “It has been a difficult year for many people. I thought this would be a great opportunity to put a smile on many faces. ” On Halloween, two professional actors manned the ship and handed out candy to children. The father of three says he was driven by the Halloween madness in his kids, who "keep getting excited" when they see Halloween decorations.

Several years ago, DeMatteo's now 13-year-old daughter asked for a Halloween in the theme of 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. To realize her wish, her father then built a pirate boat. But this year the ship is twice as big. The structure is made of recycled metal, wood and rope. The ship is decorated with pirate flags and a giant skeleton hanging under the bowsprit. To complete the spectacle, the ship contains six cannons that light up from time to time, a fog machine and even flame spitters. DeMatteo also produced a special soundtrack that plays in sync with the lighting effects and the fire eaters. The cost was about $ 3,000. "It may look expensive, but I bought all the equipment second-hand and did a lot of tinkering myself," says DeMatteo, who spent a week working on his Halloween project.
There is also a charitable aspect to the project: DeMatteo asks all those curious who come to take a look to bring food for vulnerable people in the local community. His garage is now packed with donated food. A very nice promotion!

He was able to tell us that 421 children participated in the practical traffic exam today. All but five children passed. Congratulations to all! The children who did not make it turned out to have cycled on the route with their hands free. The route started and ended at the Tuyter. Mayor Martijn Vroom was present to officially start the first class. 7.3 Kilometers was cycled and the children of the groups 7 and 8 passed all kinds of difficult intersections and traffic situations in Krimpen aan den IJssel. What was very annoying and difficult was that there have been young people who removed or turned around signs from the route. In addition, some plates are irreparably damaged. It was the first time that this happened on the day of the traffic test. Your browser does not support this audio player. You can download the file . Also in this edition of Decennium Dick a...
