This year it will be 70 years ago that the 1st generation Moluccans were transferred to the Netherlands in 1951 with 12 ship transports. On command, about 4000 Moluccan KNIL soldiers and Navy men came to the Netherlands with their families (in total 12,500 persons). At the point of arrival of the 1st transport ship at the Lloydkade in Rotterdam, it is not yet possible to trace a historical event. The National Moluccan Monument Foundation (LMM) is committed to realizing a monument. The monument will be a tribute to this 1st generation Moluccans and their families and in recognition of the shared past. The monument can also serve to continue telling the story of the arrival of Moluccans in the Netherlands to current and future generations.
